maximun thickness of mdf and speed was created by jomule
Hello!
I have a s -600 and I am manufacturing a bartop arcade .
The thickness of the wood, which is MDF, is 16 mm .
I have a ibs PROXXON , and I am using a speed of 15 mms , 16000 rpm .and a bit of 3mmm single flute
My question is , what is the maximum thickness that can work with this machine ?
and is 15 mmS too fast ? . I want to make 5 passes for 16 mm.

Thanks for your answers

Hi Jomule,

I have milled 16mm mdf. Here are the facts:
SC 600, Dremel 300, 3,175 diamond mill (Fräser), 12 mms, 30000 rpm (This is the maximum speed of the Dremel 300)
I use 2mm steps = 8 passes for 16 mm

My experience is, that the machine get vibrations. You can see it on the picture.
The left edge is unsteady. This is the first pass with vibrations. For the future I want to reduce the rpm to avoid vibrations.
You can see the cut out in the middle of the mdf. I think it occurs because of one single vibration.

What I know: In general maximum mms-Speed is good, because this will cool down the mill (Fräser).

Would be nice to hear of your experience, how to mill 16 mm mdf.

Jörg

Based on what I have heard is that high rpm creates rubbing and heating (dulls the tool), but it alone should not cause vibration. I would reduce the feedrate or cutting depth before reducing rpm (not saying that 30k is optimal). Backlash, tool bending, high machine load could also cause vibration.

Hi Jomule,

I reduced rpm speed.
3.175 Fräser, cut depth 2mm, 700mm/minute, rpm 24000
I got better results on cutting MDF.

Best regards
Jörg
