Project for Christmas
With Christmas rapidly approaching I thought I had better make a start on a mechanical toy I promised for a friends daughter.
Very early stage but pleased with the results of a down cut end mill in birch ply. Really could do with a vacuum table for this though.
I will show more as I make it, The gears were designed on a great piece of software - http://woodgears.ca/gear_cutting/template.html also some great tips.

Got a bit further on today. A fairly poor cutout finally got me to level the table a job I have been putting off and like a lot of things it wasn't as bad as I though. Using a 1/4 upcut end mill, taking 1.5mm off the job took 1hour 13 minutes. I kept the vac running the hole time as it generated quite a lot of dust!
I've found making things with wooded gears you need to make bigger tolerances, or it just gets too tight to work. It's great to say in this case the Steppi is TOO accurate!
More to follow.......
