There is a comparison of the different versions (starter and USB are the versions delivered by stepcraft) on the stepcraft homepage. But it´s only in german.

Comparison of different Versions of WinPCNC

I hope it will be (a little bit) helpful although it´s the wrong language.

There are two versions of WinPC for the STEPCRAFT machines.

WinPC starter is the standard offering and it provides a user friendly interface with simplified functionality. It allows .PLT files to be exported from Corel Draw. WinPC starter allows simple control of your STEPCRAFT machine while retaining most of the user interface that the full version has.

NOTE: You cannot control the 3D printer with the WinPC Starter version.

WinPC full version is a full Gcode controller. WinPC full version is very similar to Mach3 in how it operates. This allows Gcode to be loaded into the machine controller. This can be generated in a number of ways. We use Cut2D and VcarvePro (from www.vectric.com) as our CAM packages that generate Gcode. The 3D printer slicr software outputs Gcode and therefore the WinPC program allows the 3D printer control to operate.

The USB interface is the same, only the software features which are enabled is different. (You can start the starter SW without a connected interface and it will show you all available features.)

So, you can later on upgrade to the full version, but as far as I remember in total this route will be more expensivel

SC 420 mit DIY parallel + Proxxon mit Mod + HF500 + SprintLayout + LibreCAD/QCAD + FreeCAD +WinPC starter/USB->EstlCAM + EstlCAM LPTAdapter + EstlCAM Handrad + DIY Vakuumtisch

Gruß, Andreas
