End mill & collet
Hello everybody,
I would like to ask how far the end-mill must be inserted in the er-collet in order to operate smoothly. Since each endmill varies in length, is there a standard point where the mill must be inserted?

Rule of thumb is to support the milling cutter as much as possible into the collet.
You have to be careful to allow for height of clamps and job thickness.

I just make sure the full length of the collet is full. I'm not doing anything aggressive however. Mostly Pine and Oak.

Also it is not advisable to grip on the cutting flutes, so dont insert the cutter too far into the collet.
If you grip the cutting flutes and the cutter slips then you could damage your collet or cutter.
