UCCNC Backlash Settings?
Is anybody using the Backlash setting in UCCNC as something other than '0' ?
I read somewhere about the v2's having some backlash and that this could be compensated for in software, is this where it should be set?
you can set backlash compensation in the Axis settings for each axis. This needs time and consideration during setup to get right. But it can improve the performance
I have at last measured and set up the backlash compensation on my SC420/2.
I used my DIY digitising probe with a 2mm ruby ball and a micrometer set to 3mm to allow me to move each axis by exactly 1mm. The DRO on the UCCNC "Run" screen indicates the amount the stepper had to move to achieve the 1mm axis movement - the excess over 1mm being the backlash correction required.
When taking these measurements, disable backlash temporarily to get a true figure, enter this in the appropriate parameter box, re-enable backlash, use the new settings and double check before saving the profile
In my case the X axis required 0.21mm and the Y axis 0.80mm, and afterwards the DRO read 1mm +- .005mm on both axes. The DRO was set to zero at one extreme to more easily see the required value
Here is the measurement setup for the X axis.
Hope this is useful

There is no problem, however simple, that cannot be made more complicated by thinking about it.
The units in UCCNC are defined by the steps per value you setup for the axes.
If your steps per values were setup for millimeters then one unit is one mm, if it was setup for inches then your unit is one inch.
The backlash value refers to that same unit.
Thanks Karoly.
I should have also included in my original question, what would be the recommended Backlash velocity %.
I could not find anything on google, all I could find was backlash acceleration which may be on other
UCCNC revisions.
In my head 100% would be correct so as to prevent the cutter/machine having to slow down when it needs
to accommodate for the backlash. I just want to be sure before I enter something incorrect and I have
cutters hitting clamps etc. thanks.
the new UCCNC has a new algorithm
the backlash acceleration is the setting that needs to be configured
this needs to be 20% higher than the acceleration value of the axis.
