Yes that aluminium plate was drilled and tapped M6 using a Bridgeport.

The walnut veneer is just on the front facing side.

Have been looking on eBay for glasses hinges Hinges or could make my own not too sure just yet and the glass are from a previous pair of prescription glasses I have, just had my eyes tested and the prescription didnt change.

I looked at a few types of hinges online, then saw some plastic and decided to have a crack at making my own.
Yeah they may not last that long as you say but I'll give them a go.
