Long reach single flute for foam cutting
Hello,
I am looking for a single flute long reach cutter diameter from 2 to 8 mm for foam cutting.
30 mm would be great.
Any experience or advise is always welcome.
Currently we are using quite soft foam and it is difficult to clamp and manage depth correctly.
Suggestions for this are also more then welcome.
Best regards,
Bart

Hello,
Most of our cutomers who want to cut foam, use our wood series of mills.

These mills are perfect for wood but also bring very good results with foams.

In most foams i cut the whole length in One Pass with moderate Spindle Rotation and very good vacuum cleaning.
I watch it everytime in case it melts and stick on the tool...
Remember there is an official Hot wire cutter too: https://www.stepcraft-systems.com/en/accessories/systemheld-tools/hot-wire-cutter

Hello Bart - also from me a warm welcome to the forum!
I re-traced a few of your postings and I think it would be a good idea to post a picture of that what you are trying to achieve. We have here a lot of user with quite a bit of experience and if they can see what you are looking for maybe they have the "perfect" suggestion.
It's not only about tools it's also about skills! 😉
Thanks for the pics!
Whats about a three flute cutter for foam? This is a German site but I ask Google to do the translation ... 😉

15 Jears ago, i had to perform the same type of work.
I did it with wateryetcutter in different layers and glued it together.
Bart,
I see you make inlays for tools, nice.
You use VCarve that has a feature in 3D modelling to slice you Z height.
You can use this if your cutters have not the required length, just make 2 or more slice and glue them together.
P.S. where you get that foam from?
good luck

Hey,
We get the cases from Tamos in Germany and our logo is printed on the catches.
The foam in the picture has been made by a professional company.
Tanos supply's foam for the cases but it's softer - open cell structure.
My tests with a mill where fine but because the foam is soft it's difficult to clamp.
I've just purchased the laser to see if it will do a better job (we need it for engraving also).
Thanks for the tip we will certainly use it.
