software or mechanical fault ! ?
Im totally new to cnc. I expect the odd problem .....but this has me totally stumped.
The attached picture shows two attempts at simple engraving 2mm deep in .5mm steps.
There was no change to the programe or the tool path ...just a different cutter.
First attempt disaster ...second no problem. Dont see where the fault can be !
Please help
Would be helpfull to know more about the order in which the things happened in the first try. Did you have a rough milling run (where everything was fine) and then another run for the edges?
Is it the same wood in both cases?
Lookes like the first try was done with a V-grave-endmill and the second try with a normal endmill?!
Which parameters did you use?
You have to understand that a V-grave has a very tiny tip. The tinier the endmill the more RPM you need and/or you have to have smaller feed rates.

thanks Magl02
piece with fault done first with 20mm 90degree v router cutter
changed to 2mm end mill but changed nothing else in program or tool path
which resulted in plywood engrave success ! All done with just one tool
path
Does your V cutter have much runout ? lots of vibration when running ?
High Z S1000 router (out of action)
CamBam
Linuxcnc to be replaced by UCCNC + UC-100
OSX Rhino 3D
no excessive vibration....this fault also happened with end mill cutter at 1mm deep in .5 steps
first letter went wrong next 9 okay moved to next line of text and started jumping again .
these jumps are always in the Y axis .
