Extending a 2/600 to 840 length
Hello,
Has anyone extend a 2/600 to 840 length bed?
I am happy with the width of my machine but sometimes wouldn’t mind having a bit more length and was wondering if this extension has been done and what the results are.
Regards,
Andries.
Hello Andries,
Why extending your bed? Did you consider to flip your work-piece, then you have almost a double milling area.
It works for me:)
good luck

flipping the work-piece is a good idea if space permits! My machine i.e. is placed inside of a self-made enclosure (dust and (primary) noise reduction) and flipping the work-piece would work only when removing it from the enclosure.
@Andries: such a mod would require 2x cover y-axis (36,62EUR each), linear track y axis (87,02EUR each) and lead screw y (70,32EUR each) --> around 400EUR, not cosidering a new machine bed.
I though of increasing the width of my 600/2 to 840/2 size (which is around 220EU), but still not sure if it's worth the money/effort.

Yes I had that same problem with my DIY enclosure.
But I made a hatch in the backside as wide a the machinebed and (2 inch) 50mm high just for plate material.
So now just pull your machine forward open the back hatch and you can flip your work-piece, but still enjoy the benefits of the enclosure.

Hi, I do not have an enclosure, I use Vectric Cut2D, which has 'Tiling' if the piece you are cutting is no more than the maximum 'X' width, once set up work is simply moved along its length, the only limit to total length is your working area. 'Tiling' also works across the width, but you end up with several seperate pieces.
