Dust Extractor
Just added a Dust Commander cyclonic dust extractor to my cheap shop vac. I made the mounting plates and hose adaptors to fit the hose that came with the vac. I would certainly recommend both the vac and particularly the Dust Commander, it really ease amazing!
So that's how they make curry powder!

I'll have to do something similar, dust is a problem, my vacuum gets clogged a lot.
Stepcraft 2 840
Kress 800 FME
UCCNC + UC100
V-Carve + QCad
I'm truly amazed, no dust gets to the vac, I've just replaced the bag just to act as final air filter. I paid just under £28 and it came from France in about 4 days. Can't seem to find it on Ebay at the moment but here is the email address they sent me: [email protected]
The Vac is a Titan from Screwfix about £35, noisey but great value.

Hey, I made a Thien cyclone, it's easy to build and works perfect. Only needed some MDF, a 90º tube and a spare bucket.
Check this video for how it works:

My version is something like this:
Stepcraft 2 840
Kress 800 FME
UCCNC + UC100
V-Carve + QCad
An update on my vac system, with the addition of the cyclonic dust unit the vacuum didn't know its own strength and destroyed the curry container.
So version 2 was built looking something like a cross between R2D2 and Frankenstein monster. With the addition of a very strong plastic drum some recycled book shelf (you were right dad, hang on to something for 40 years and it will come in handy 😆 ) my new vac system works a treat. Its stacked to keep its footprint as small as possible. The tray the dust container sits on is hinged so the vac can be easily removed.
In the background you can see my Ron Paulk based workbench, the sides were cut on the Steppi.
Right Egor pass the paint 👿 !!!

Just purchased one of these, it works well but seems to lack suction.
Plus the colour matches my stepcraft 🙂
What is that exactly?

Triton DCA300 Dust Collection Bucket.
It has two suction inlets so you can use two hoses.
filter clogs up pretty quick with fine dust though, so its not that great.
Better that than my vacuum.
Added an Oneida Dust Deputy to my extraction system. Tried a metal bucket ash filter available in regular construction shops but the filter needs frequent cleaning. Shaking the filter bucket as per manual didn`t help. This is why I decided to convert it to a cyclone separator.
Before modification:
Large centre hole was cut and ground with corundum cutting and grinding disks found in IBS/E storage case. Drilling those outer mounting holes bent the thin sheet metal a little but nothing too serious I hope. Wooden square part was cut with Stepcraft from 4,3mm multi-layer birch plywood.
Gaskets were cut from 5mm rubber material and small holes drilled with cordless drill and a lip and spur bit for wood.
Dust Deputy attached:
Here is the static electricity dissipating system as I understood from the owner`s manual. Aluminum tape and a wire connected to a round metal plate that is supposed to lie on the floor.
Three metal rings are there so smaller buckets could be attached to them for easier cleaning and dust collecting. Don`t have those buckets yet.
Few connection possibilities:
1. Vacuum cleaner is connected by an accessory power tool connecting adapter and regular household plumbing connectors (this is same for following options too). IBS/E dust extraction hose is also connected to the cyclone via regular household plumbing connectors. Hose from the Stepcraft is pretty small so might need additional bleed air inflow.
2. Original ash filter hose (it has a metal inner surface) can be connected with a regular household plumbing connector for some general cleaning.
3. Finally a Timberduc PUR 531 SE-AS flame-retardant and antistatic suction and blast hose for the wood industry connects to a cyclone without any additional adapters. Stumbled upon this hose by a chance as I was looking for a suitable gasket material. 🙂
Yet to be tested in operation. Made first tests with a house vacuum cleaner and some dust. Seemed to work ok.
Used the following cutting data for plywood:
Milling bit: Proxxon 1mm carbide 2 flute (catalogue no 28758)
Cutting depth for 4,3mm multi-layer birch plywood: 1mm
Feed for plywood: 600mm/min
Plunge/ Infeed: 300mm/min
