Hi all,

Just got my machine fully set up and tuned best I can with a bit of help from Rory.

I've trial cut the trial piece with no workpiece or cutter, the machine sounds like a violin when moving is this OK?

Axis sound OK to me when being jogged 1 at a time, nice and free, no mechanical groans but a high pitch squeal...

Any ideas, or confirmation whether its OK or not?

Maybe it won't make said noise with load applied to the axis....

Got plenty of ideas, for when I finally get cutting.
Look forward to sharing them....

Hi Ed, Edd, Edward, Eddie?

Welcome to the forum.

Since violins tend to make nice sounds, I would say that was a good thing to compare it to 😉

I have been conducting a few 'dry' runs with no cutter and am quite happy with the operation and sounds coming from the machine. The stepper motors make different frequency sounds depending on the speed they are operating at.

I have no previous experience of stepper motors in any application but I think most people with some degree of technical nous can discern when a sound is good or bad. Squealing or grinding noises tend to be bad. I have none of those nor does it seem that you have.

You would really need to post a video or sound clip for us to compare your machine to ours. I see a large gap in your text but nothing embedded there.

Sounds good! Enjoy the violins, once you start cutting you won't hear much of them B)

Ed is fine 🙂

Thanks for the replies, I'm fairly mechanically minded and it doesn't sound like there are any grinding or squealing noises, just a consistent noise from the leads crews/motors which is as to e expected in my opinion.
There are 2 YouTube videos in my post, or at least I can see them, so hopefully most can 🙂

Its moving into the garage tonight from the assembly station (kitchen table) and I hope to at least cut the test piece.

Thanks all 🙂
