Strange noise when Goto Zero

My 420/2 is working fine, but when I hit "Goto Zero" in UCCNC, the X axis is making a strange noise lately.
I don't have this issue when I move the X axis manually.

The noise is like it's making small steps, but it's running at full speed.
Nothing has been changed in the software, the tension of the belt seems to be ok.

Any ideas?

How about when you ask the machine to "Home" ??

Assuming I have understood you correctly, does this happen if you jog (manual mode ?) the axis at full speed?

Stepper motors run out of torque at higher speeds, so this might be due to excessive friction in your X-axis if the axis won't move at "Goto" speeds.

Check out this link for the ST4118S1404 to see the dramatic drop off it higher speeds.

There is no problem, however simple, that cannot be made more complicated by thinking about it.

When I hit the "Home" button, the unit is moving to the corner normally without issues.
This is only happening when I push the "Goto Zero" button, which is really strange.

At lower speeds, this noise is expected, but at full speed, and -only- when the Goto Zero function is running, that's odd.
And I didn't had this problem before.

But your theory about the friction could be the issue here, I will check the machine today.

To make life easy I made some knobs to attach to the stepper spindles - its much easier to feel the friction when turning these with machine power off.

If you don't have a lathe, get the Stepcraft to make something similar out of hardwood - the shaft is 5mm, and fit a locking grubscrew so it doesn't slip.

I have to correct my OP: it's the Y axis that's making the noise, not the X axis.
Sorry about that!

I have also noises, when the Y axis runs near the end with the switch. I think, it is from the wires, that goes to the portal. Until now, the machine works without problems, so I ignore the noises, because I'm an optimistic boy 🙂

I was optimistic too, but I now have many parts to replace unfortunately... 😆
